The Bladetech Brotherhood seminars                                                                                                                                in association with Jak Othman Kickboxing & Martial Arts Studio (JOKMAS) Terengganu

History was made on the 2nd March 2013, when JOKMAS Terengganu hosted their 3rd  Bladetech Brotherhood  seminar series. For the first time a 3 in 1 weapon seminar by the world renowned blade expert Prof. Jak Othman attracted martial arts enthusiasts from all over Trengganu and there were participants from Kuala Lumpur and Johor Baru too.

The one day ‘Kerambit, Kapak Kecil & Belati ’seminar which was held at Gong Badak Kuala Terengganu kicked off at 9am with the professor introducing the Belati art of combat. His speed, fluidity and precision of applying the techniques stunted the participants. Watching those blinding speed cuts, slashes and stabs executed skilfully just blown everyone away.

Belati is the Malay knife fighting art which originated from the Keris and Badek fighting system of Malay Silat. He introduced the fact that in order for one to defend himself against a knife attack he must master the way of the knife. The chance of surviving an attack by a skill knife fighter unhurt is zero. After 2 hours of learning the methods, the participants were convinced that the belati methods are very effective, sophisticated and no doubt realistic.

Next he moved on to the art of Kapak Kecil. He introduced the history of the weapon which originally from Java. It a daily tool of the Javanese ladies which turned deadly when the need arise. The weapon was brought to Pattani by a family of ‘pandai besi’ from Madjapahit in the 15th century. Here it evolved into an assassin weapon. It is believed that it is the predecessor of the famous Kelantan kapak kecil. He introduced the fighting art of the weapon for the first time in his award winning documentary ‘Inside silat’ which appeared in the RTM National Geographic slot in 2009 and this is the first seminar where he taught the kapak kecil fighting system to the public. The participants are lucky to be among the first to learn it.  The techniques were beautiful to watch and the art is simply deadly. After 2 hours of exploring the art, mastering the hacking and stabbing techniques of this unique tool, the professor concluded the first part of the seminar at 1pm.

After lunch and Zohor, at 2.30pm sharp the seminar recommenced. The world renowned kerambit fighting methods were taught by the professor. He is one of the fore fathers of the kerambit internationally where he first introduced the art in United Kingdom and Europe in 1985. Today, kerambit is world famous and renowned as the martial arts weapon of the millennium.

This is the 3rd kerambit seminar for JOKMAS Terengganu. The first two was hosted by the state Pusaka Gayong Center with consent of Grandmaster Haji Omar. The participants enjoyed every moment of it. The Prof. covered history, combat philosophies and strategies, and of course the destructive techniques. He highlighted that it is time Malaysian, especially the Malays martial arts enthusiasts should learn it. It is world famous and it is about time everyone should know it is a Malay weapon. The kerambit segment concluded the seminar and at 4.30pm the certificate giving ceremony ended the fun, inspiring and smart seminar by Professor Jak Othman.

There are talks about doing seminars in Johor Baru, Melaka and Kota Kinabalu in the near future. The dates and details will be announced soon.    If God willing, the next ‘kerambit, kapak kecil and Belati’ seminar in Kuala Terengganu will be on the Saturday 4th May 2013 9am-4.30pm at the Grandmaster Haji Omar’s Pusaka Gayong Martial Arts Centre. Seterusnya senjata kapak kecil.
